Comparison Task Templates

About Comparison Task Templates

Task templates with the comparison cost method provide you with a powerful tool to analyze costs for self-performed work as compared to subcontracted. This is accomplished by combining features from two other cost methods: detailed and subcontracted.

Building a Comparison Task Template

Comparison task templates allow you to create cost structures that allow you to configure self-performed cost detail alongside subcontractor information.

  1. In the Resources area, navigate to the Task Template Listing tab.
  2. From the Edit & Tools command tab, select New Record on the toolbar.
  3. Type a name for your task template.
  4. Select a unit of measure for your task template.
  5. In the Cost Method dropdown, choose Comparison.
  6. You may optionally select or type in a work type and work subtype.
  7. Select to the Task Template Detail tab to configure your task template.

Think of a comparison task template as a combination of a subcontracted task template and a detailed task template. You may enter a plug cost for the subcontracted portion, just as you would for a subcontracted task template. Similarly, you may add resources and configure component structure within the comparison task template just as you would for a detailed task template.

Working with detailed task templates

Once your comparison task template has been configured, you may choose it's default behavior when added to an estimate. Note that there are two radio buttons labeled Use subcontracted and Use self-performed. You can select the default behavior for your comparison task template by selecting one of these options. (For example, if more often than not you self-perform this type of work, you would select the option to Use self-performed.)
