Replace a Labor Rate Class

The Replace Labor Rate Class feature enables the batch updating of labor base costs and burdens by synchronizing existing estimate components with updated rate class data from the master Resources database.

B2W Estimate supports the ability to replace an entire Labor Rate Class in an existing estimate. There are several occasions when this may be useful:

  • You selected the wrong labor rate class when you had originally created the estimate, and you need to correct the mistake by replacing the incorrect labor costs throughout your estimate.
  • You've copied an older estimate to use as a "starting point" for a new bid. You want to update the labor costs in your copied estimate with new rate class information from Resources.
  • Since the time you created your current estimate, labor information in Resources has been updated, and you want to incorporate that new information throughout your current estimate.

The Replace Labor Rate Class option only replaces the rate classes in unlocked estimate blocks. Learn more about estimate blocks.

Replace the labor rate class for your entire estimate

  1. Navigate to the Estimate Detail tab.
  2. Select the Costing command tab, select Replace Rate Classes, and select Replace Labor Rate Class. The Replace Labor Rate Class dialog appears.
  3. Use the Labor rate class dropdown to select a new labor rate class for your current estimate, then select OK. B2W Estimate does the following:
    • For all labor types in your current estimate, B2W Estimate updates base cost and burden values with the latest information from the selected rate class in Resources.
    • Sets the selected rate class as the default rate class for your current estimate. This is done to ensure that new labor that you add to your current estimate uses information from the newly selected rate class.

Replace the labor rate class for a portion of your estimate

B2W Estimate also allows you to replace labor rate classes within smaller portions of your estimate. For example, you may want to use different labor costs within a particular phase or work type.

To replace a labor rate class for a portion of your estimate, follow these steps:

  1. On the Estimate Detail tab tree view, right select any of the following:
    • A phase group
    • An alternate group
    • A work type group
    • The Pay Items group
    • The Indirect Items group
    • A detailed item or task
    • A comparison item or task
  2. Select Rate Classes in the context menu and then select Replace Labor Rate Class... The Replace Labor Rate Class dialog appears.
  3. Use the Labor rate class dropdown to select a new labor rate class, then select OK. Your changes apply only to components that exist within the portion of the estimate you are editing.
