Find and Replace Dialog

Use the Find and Replace dialog to locate specific cost components and replace them with different resources globally or within selected sections of an estimate.

B2W Estimate's Find and Replace feature allows you to perform two functions:

  • Locate instances of a component in your estimate.
  • Replace one component in your estimate with another component of the same type—either all at once, or one at a time.

Access the Find and Replace Dialog

To open the dialog, perform one of the following actions on the Estimate Detail tab:

  • To search the entire estimate: Select Costing > Find and Replace > Cost Components.
  • To search a specific portion: Right-select a node in the tree view (e.g., Pay Items, Cost Group, or Task) and select Find and Replace > Cost Components.

Search for a Component (Find)

  1. In the Find cost component type area, select the component type you want to search for.
  2. Use the Find What dropdown to choose the specific component.
  3. Select Find Next to navigate to the first instance; continue selecting Find Next to advance through the estimate.

Replace one Component with Another (Find and Replace)

  1. Select the component type and specific component you want to replace in the Find fields.
  2. Select the replacement component using one of the following methods:
    • Choose from the Replace with dropdown, which lists components in the current estimate and in Resources.
    • Select the Component Lookup button to search the master database.

      Component Lookup Filters:

      • Labor/Equipment: Filter by rate class or category.
      • Materials/Miscellaneous: Filter by category and subcategory.
  3. Execute the replacement:
    • Select Replace All to update every instance instantly.
    • Select Find Next followed by Replace to review and update instances individually.
