Estimate Options - Cost Components, Crews, Work Rules page

The Work Rules page in Estimate Options contains configurations for work rules used within the current estimate.

To navigate to this page of the dialog, select the Edit & Tools command tab and select Options > Estimate Options. Then select Cost Components > Crews > Work Rules.

Work Rules in Estimate Options cannot be edited when in use in a locked estimate block.

The estimate options version of the Crews, Work Rules page contains the configurations of work rules that are in use or have been added to or created in the current estimate.

Each work rule listed in Estimate Options meets one or more of the following conditions:

  • The work rule is in use by one or more crews in the current estimate.
  • The work rule is set as the default work rule on the Cost Components, Crews, General page in Estimate Options.
  • The work rule has been created on the fly in Estimate Options.

Here in Estimate Options, you may create new estimate specific work rules or configure existing ones as follows:

FieldDescription
Work Rule

Use the combo box to select the name of the work rule whose settings are to be displayed or edited.

Create a new work rule

Select Create New Work Rule to create a new work rule. You may create as many work rules as you want, and configure unique settings for each.

Duplicate a work rule

Select Duplicate Work Rule to create a new work rule which has the same default settings as the currently displayed work rule. Use this button to save time in creating new work rules which are similar to your existing work rules.

Rename a work rule

Select Rename Work Rule to rename an existing work rule.

Delete a work rule

Select Delete Work Rule when you need to permanently delete the currently selected work rule. B2W Estimate will not let you delete a work rule which used as a system default, or is associated with any crew template.

Production HR/DY The value you enter here represents the default number of productive hours per crew day for crews using the displayed work rule. Production hours per day are taken into account for summary purposes, and are instrumental when a crew's production method is set to either UM/PH or PH/UM.
Equipment HR/DY This value represents the default number of daily costing hours for equipment in crews using the displayed work rule. Unless you specify otherwise inside a crew, all crew equipment will be costed at this number of hours for each day.
Labor - Calculate  HR/DY

Work rules allow B2W Estimate to keep track of the exact number of regular hours, overtime hours, and double time hours per day for labor types inside a crew using the displayed work rule. The Calculate HR/DY checkbox controls the level of detail at which you can configure these hours.

  • When the Calculate HR/DY option is disabled, type an average daily value in the Regular HR/DY, Overtime HR/DY, and Double time HR/DY fields:

  • When the Calculate HR/DY option is enabled, B2W Estimate calculates your average daily values when you enter a unique value in the Regular HR/DY, Overtime HR/DY, and Double time HR/DY fields for each day of the week:

The settings on any page in Estimate Options reflect the properties or dictate the behavior of the current estimate only. Your global settings, that set the default properties and behavior of all new estimates you create, are stored on the corresponding page in the options dialog.
