Estimate Options - Cost Components, Equipment, General page

The Equipment General page in Estimate Options allows you to view and manage default settings for equipment rate classes in the current estimate.

To navigate to this page of the dialog, select the Edit & Tools command tab and select Options > Estimate Options. Then select Cost Components > Equipment > General.

The Estimate Options version of the Equipment, General page is where you can view the default settings associated with the equipment rate classes that are in use in your current estimate.

Each estimate may have an unlimited number of equipment rate classes, each with its own default settings and burdens. The settings for the current estimate's default equipment rate class are stored within Estimate Options, as well as the settings for additional rate classes that are in use within the current estimate.

Conversion Factors

Standard conversion factors are used to convert equipment burdens when the units of measure for the equipment base cost and the equipment burdens are different. They are also used to calculate labor durations when an equipment record's unit of measure is different than that of its associated labor type.

For example, equipment which is costed by the day may have a monthly maintenance burden. B2W Estimate needs to know how many days are in a month, so that when you use that equipment for a certain number of days in an estimate, it can calculate what portion of that monthly maintenance burden to apply. By the same token, if that same equipment record has an associated labor type which is costed by the hour, a conversion factor will determine how many labor hours to calculate.

Set fuel costs

Each equipment rate class may store unique fuel costs and units of measure.

To set your default fuel volume unit of measure within a rate class, select either Gallon or Liter from the Fuel volume combo box.

You may enter a default cost for each fuel type. When you change the cost of a fuel type here in Estimate Options, the fuel cost will be automatically updated in every piece of equipment in the current estimate within this rate class that uses that fuel type.

Create a new fuel type

  1. Select New Fuel Type.
  2. Type a name for your new fuel type.
  3. Select OK.
  4. Enter a cost for your new fuel type.

The settings on any page in Estimate Options reflect the properties or dictate the behavior of the current estimate only. Your global settings, that set the default properties and behavior of all new estimates you create, are stored on the corresponding page in the Options Dialog.
