Trimble Licensing in Spectrum

Overview of the relationship between the Operator record in the Spectrum application and the user record in the Admin Console. This information is useful for license assignment and user setup.

Does Trimble Licensing apply to you?

Because Trimble is migrating Spectrum customers in structured waves, you should continue with your current user management process until your specific account has been activated.

Trimble Licensing applies only when both these statements are true:
  • Official Notification: You have received the "Migration Complete" email from Trimble confirming that your active users have been successfully moved into the Admin Console and that the licensing connection between Spectrum and the Admin Console is complete.
  • Product Visibility: You can sign into the Admin Console and see your users within the Spectrum subscriptions listed under the Products and Licenses tab.
If either statement is not true, the information on this page does not yet apply to your organization.
Important: Even if you've used the Admin Console to manage licenses of other Trimble applications, using it to manage your Spectrum licenses before your Spectrum users have been migrated will have no effect.

If Trimble Licensing Applies to Your Spectrum Organization

If Trimble has migrated your users, each user needs both these in order to sign in to Spectrum:
  • an active Operator record in Spectrum
  • a valid Trimble license in the Admin Console
Administrative users can provide both to any user that needs it.
  • If you were an administrative user in Spectrum at the time Trimble migrated your organization to the Admin Console, your role in the Admin Console is automatically set to License Admin.
  • If you were made a Spectrum administrative user after the migration, you will need to be made a License Admin in the Admin Console. Any other License Admin can do this for you. For instructions, see Edit a Role in the Admin Console; you can also find more details at Admin Console Roles.

Choice of Workflow

When you need to set up a new user in Spectrum, you can choose where to start - in Spectrum or in the Admin Console.
  • Create a New Operator Record (with Trimble Licensing) (recommended) - when you set up the new user, Spectrum checks the Admin Console for an available license.
    • If a license is available, the Spectrum record updates automatically and the user can sign in.
    • If a license in not available, Spectrum moves the user record to the Complete Operator Setup window. Once a license is secured in the Admin Console, you can complete the process in Spectrum so the user can sign in.
  • Add a Spectrum User in the Admin Console - when you add a new user and assign a license, the Admin Console sends basic information to Spectrum, where you can go finalize the user setup.
